Want to improve your phone photography skills?

Did you know that I’m a firm believer that phone photography has a place in marketing your business?

Phone photography doesn’t in any way replace your professional images, but it can add that little extra depth – a sneak behind the scenes of your business, or a quick and poignant update for your followers.

The secret is to be mindful of the phone snaps you’re sharing. Avoiding blurred images, or photos that haven’t really been thought through. Instead, think about what story you are trying to tell with your images, and work on improving your technique.

The fact is, anyone can improve their photography, and tell more of their brand story. Here are a few quick tips…

Lighting is everything: Lighting can make or break a photo. Natural light is your best friend, so whenever possible, shoot outdoors, or near a bright window indoors.

Composition counts: Remember the rule of thirds – visually divide your frame into thirds both horizontally and vertically, and place your subject at the intersections. This technique draws the viewer’s eye into the composition, rather than just centring the subject.

Keep it steady: Blurry photos from shaky hands are a common issue. Use a tripod or other prop to keep your phone steady. This is crucial for low-light conditions where your camera needs to stay still for longer.

If you’re keen to improve your phone photography, I recorded a recent presentation I gave at a networking event, with lots of hints, tips and advice for improving your skills (including a quick and easy way to edit using the tools you already have on your phone). I’ve just launched it as a new free resource, and you can access it here:

When Phone Photography Isn't Enough

If you’re finding that most of the content you’re sharing on social media (and your website) has been taken with a phone, then take this as a gentle nudge to up your game.

Although phone photography definitely has it’s place, if it’s all your sharing when it comes to your business, you are doing yourself (and your biz) a disservice.

Professional photography really does set you off on a different level in business. You are showing the world that you are a professional in your field, and that you take yourself and your work seriously.

And it doesn’t have to break the bank. It’s an investment well worth considering, and I have a range of services, from mini shoots to days-long shoots, with payment plans available.

If you’re ready to level up? Let’s connect and craft a visual story that’s uniquely you.
