Quirky and Unusual Wedding Venues

I am on a mission!

I’m currently having fun researching and visiting unusual wedding venues in Bristol and North Somerset. There are so many fabulous alternatives to the more traditional wedding or civil ceremony venue, and I’m excited to play my part in spreading the word and a bit of inspiration!!

These venues are listed in no particular order at this stage, and as my mission is an on-going one, please watch this space for updates 😊.

1. We The Curious

Yes, you can get married under the stars, but out of Bristol Weather (and at a more sociable time). The Planetarium is a wonderfully quirky yet romantic place to say your vows, and has room for just under 100 people. There are also two function rooms with fabulous views over Bristol – which are very flexible, light and airy spaces – for post-ceremony feasting and dancing.

2. Arnos Vale Cemetery

Did you know you can tie the knot at this beautiful woodland venue?  There are three locations available, including the gorgeously elegant Anglican Chapel.

3. SS Great Britain

If you’re after style and elegance as well as an unusual venue, then you could say your vows and celebrate aboard Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s famous SS Great Britain!

4. Banwell Castle

Contrary to what you might assume, this is the perfect venue for a smaller, more intimate wedding. The ceremony takes place in the courtyard (which is covered for the occasion, so you don’t need to worry about the weather). There are some wonderful opportunities to enjoy the beautiful views over the countryside too.

5. Court Farm Country Park

If having your celebration on a farm, in a beautifully decked out large barn, with lots of animals nearby, then this is for you!  It’s a very popular venue and tends to get booked up pretty quickly.

These photos were taken out of season on a cold January day, but you can totally see the potential for the space!

6. Leigh Court

The most conventional venue listed here, but with loads of space outside to explore, and a wonderful great hall with sweeping staircases, it makes it onto the list nonetheless!

7. Yeo Valley

They don’t shout about it much, but did you know you can get hitched at the beautiful Yeo Valley Organic Garden?  The grounds are absolutely beautiful, and the Garden Cafe produces delicious organic food.

Yeo Valley is a working farm, famous for its dairy produce (we absolutely love Yeo Valley yoghurts!).  We’ve spent many happy afternoons exploring the organic garden, with the tucked away Tarka Pond, and plenty of hidden twists and turns to investigate.

8. Bristol Registry Office and Surrounding Area

Ok, this might sound like the somewhat conventional alternative to a religious ceremony, but the rooms are beautiful, and the location is great – there’s plenty of opportunity for unusual photos within a couple of minutes walk of the venue (graffiti optional!).

9. Beese’s Tea Room (and a boat!)

Very excitingly, Beese’s is now a wedding venue!  This beautiful, tucked away location is perfect for smaller gatherings, and as an extra added bonus, you and your guests can be carried to the venue in style via an hour-long, very scenic, boat cruise (complete with nibbles and bubbles) from the centre of Bristol.  It’s great, even in the rain!!
